Growing up, Echo had a passion for creativity and all forms of visual and performing arts. She loved to learn new things, share her knowledge and encourage others to do the same! Calligraphy and lettering was always a huge obsession of hers. Starting in elementary school, her sketchbooks were full of quotes and words, where she played around with different lettering styles and handwriting. She took her first calligraphy class in college in 2000, an introduction to pointed pen, broad edge and monoline scripts, and it was love at first write! Echo was excited to utilize her new talent, along with her card-making and crafting skills, when planning her wedding. She really enjoyed the process of creating a whole cohesive look, with the save the dates, invitations, calligraphy and all the day-of accessories and Echo Art and Design was established in 2006. In addition to custom invitations and calligraphy, Echo also does graphic design and illustration. Then in 2020, she began to realize the limitations of her primarily self-taught methods, so she decided to “go back to basics” and sought out every beginner and intermediate calligraphy class she could possibly find! After a period of intense, very structured learning, in which her skills improved dramatically, she rediscovered her joy of writing! Echo’s calligraphy styles include both modern and traditional, using a variety of tools. She has continued with pointed pen and broad edge nibs, and over the years has added brushes, brush pens, and digital calligraphy. When she’s not doing her own creative work, Echo enjoys doing other creative things with her family! Whether it’s DIY projects with her husband around their home in Watertown, MA, or getting her 2 daughters involved in crafty gifts or themed birthday parties or homemade halloween costumes, she loves making just about everything into an art project!Echo is thrilled to be able to share her expertise and she is looking forward to seeing you in class!
