Flash forward a couple of months later and we hosted our first Sip & Script (which was actually a hand lettering class! Calligraphy came later for a Valentine’s event!) in December with 60 ladies in attendance.
We were blown away by the initial response and the gap in the market for learning calligraphy in a casual and fun atmosphere really became so clear. The only classes at the time were intensive, 3 hour workshops for professional calligraphers at $250+ pricepoint. We ourselves have taken those classes, but thought, “how much fun would it be to do this at a bar with my BFF?!”
We set out to make learning calligraphy more accessible for everyone, without the high price tag and pretentious vibe. Let’s encourage people to incorporate lettering into their everyday lives whether that’s a family dinner party, holiday, friend’s baby shower or just for some alone zen time. Let’s not keep it JUST in the professional realm because it can be such an enjoyable hobby for people too!
So off we went teaching every single class just the two of us for 3 straight years all across New England and to this day that is our main motive and mission!
We are now fortunate enough to have such an incredible team of artists across the country spreading that letter love in their hometowns as well. Being able to connect with such like minded, badass businesswoman over our love of calligraphy has been the greatest joy of this whole wild ride!
We hope you also love the break from solo 15 hour envelope jobs and just enjoy getting to share the lettering love to fun groups of people in your communities while also supporting local businesses! At the end of the day that’s what owning a creative business is all about, and we are so thankful to be able to now welcome you to the Sip & Script family and brand.
